This isn't a cav comment, but maybe it will help...

I have a friend with a schipperke. She went away, and asked me if
I could take the sweet bitch for a week. Since my sussex and this
dog were bestest friends, I said yes. The woman warned me not to
let her out of my kitchen, because she will pee all over the house.
I asked for more information -- this dog peed on the antique quilt
on her bed, on the carpet, on the sofa, on clothes...everywhere.

The dog came over, and she was too cute running around with my dog,
so I didn't listen to the warnings. Within an hour of being at my
house, she peed on the rug. Just as she started to go, I said, "Anybody
gotta pee?" this signaled to my dog that it was time to go out, so
he ran to the backdoor, and she followed him, and finished her business
outside. I went inside and cleaned the mess with nature's miracle.

That was the one and only accident she had in my house that whole
week. Any time she had to go, she ran to the back door, and I let
her out to go. The owner said that after that, she never peed again
in her house either...until we moved, and then she started peeing
again. The owner and I have lost touch, so I'm not sure what's happening
now.

My personal feeling was that it was about stress, more than dominance,
in her case, as well as not having a clear sense about what to do.
Another friend of mine had a bitch who was peeing inside, and in
her case, it was because of incontinence. She just was physically
incapable of holding it. I've also heard of dogs going inside because
of uti's or bad outside experiences.
