Having just read an article discussing breed specialists and all rounders, I couldn't help but comment on the post regarding the judge Jean McFarlane.
Dorothy MacDonald, president of Dog Judges Association of America wrote: If it is really true that the breeder-judge and the multi-breed judge have different standards, it is a sad commentary on both. It is true that bad breeder-judges tend to lose the quality of the whole dog in emphasizing one particular breed characteristic. conversely, bad multi-breed judges tend to lose key breed characteristics in going for overall generic balance. A good judge, whether a multi-breed judge or a breeder-judge finds and rewards the important breed specific characteristics exhibited by the specimen that is also typical and has overall balance. There is no conflict between good judges. Differences of opinion, yes: conflict, no. A good judge is a good judge. Finding Breed Essence-AKC Gazette July 2002. I have found the above to be true having won equally under both breeder judges and all rounders. Judges judge and reward what is presented to them on any given day. The BOB one day may not even place on another day given better quality competition.
