I wonder, has anyone ever won and asked a judge their feelings about the dog? My
favorite part of getting pictures is the unsolicited judge's comments. Always positive
of course!

I have heard recommended that if you desire to talk to the judge about your breed, ask
only in generalities. Ask the judge what they see as strengths and weaknesses in the
breed etc. Everyone who breeds and exhibits knows that we all have our pet peeves-I
can't stand a gay tail and a poor topline, maybe for someone else it is a face with
freckles. The judges are the same. I do believe it is up to the exhibitor to know
their dog, and then learn from what a judge uses what his preferences are.

We all have judges we do not support, whether it is because of picking handlers or not
knowing the breed. Don't show to them. The rest of the judges probably have a pretty
good grasp on most breeds and are doing their best with what is presented on the day.
If judges were held accountable with a posted written critique-maybe a few things
would change-but not much. A judge could still put up an inferior dog, beautifully
presented by a pro handler and that is reason enough.
