Hi Laura,
I wonder if many of the failed breedings were due to the fact that the
vet sent an incomplete ejaculate. Dog's ejaculate in three phases, 1 is the
pre ejaculate which lubricates the passgae for the sperm, 2 is the actual
ejaculate complete with sperm, and 3 is the post ejaculate which is designed
to push the sperm along. Some dogs who are not used to being artificially
ejaculated will only give the pre ejaculate which does contain a few weak
sperm. This could be interpreted on the receiving end as being badly
degraded. I'd double check with the collecting vet that only high quantity
and quality ejaculate is sent. A low grade semen is unlikely to lead to
pregnancy.
