I go on the assumption that if it is under 1.9 ng/ml, then I've got at least three days until I have to check again, because it generally takes at least 4 days for it to go from baseline to breeding day. There's no point in doing every 48 hour progesterones unless you are close to 5ng/ml, or need a long lead time. Doing them less frequently cuts down on the expense, and I can almost always get away with two progesterones.
If I get a baseline of 1.6 ng/ml on Monday and the stud dog is readily available, I do not check again until Friday. If semen has to be sent, I would check again on Thursday, either that or do it early on Friday and run the tube of blood to the lab myself so I get the results the same day. As long as I got the results a couple hours prior to the last Fed Ex shipment on Friday, it would be ok. Fed Ex will deliver on Saturday morning, overnight from the other half of the US, but you can't send anything out for overnight delivery on Saturday or Sunday, meaning if you got your first shipment Saturday morning, you couldn't get the next one until Tuesday morning. If you're dealing with vets for inseminations, that complicates timing matters. I feel that AKC should take away the requirement for veterinary signatures. Now that we have DNA testing, that is unnecessary. Leanne ----- Original Message ----- > Leanne, now I KNOW I've got something wrong going on with my labs.
