http://www.chs.ca/info/noise/levels.html The Canadian hearing society's page
has info on decibel levels that damage human hearing. Dogs, of course, have
better hearing than humans but I would guess that the frequency of the sound
is as important as the decibels when it comes to dogs. I'd be more concerned
about the amount of stress the dogs would experience being exposed to
extended loud noise like an alarm. (PS: Where I live -- a suburb -- no one
pays the slightest attention to a sound alarm unless it goers on for a long
time. The best systems send a signal to the alarm company which then
verifies that it's a genuine alarm and then notifies police/fire.)

Subject: [CKCS-L] Audible Alarm System

A friend asked me this question and I really don't have an answer. Hope
someone else can give an educated guess :o)

"We are looking into getting a security system for our home and the
salesperson is telling us the alarm sound is 106 decimals. Could this
possibly deafen the dogs if it is not turned off in a timely manner?"
