We have an alarm system and the noise level is not bad at all. It beeps in the house but outside it is much louder. We do not have motion detection since we have animals, but we do have glass break detectors around all the windows. The only problem is one of the glass break detectors is placed to close to an icemaker in the bar area and if you fill up a bucket or drop something on the floor, it sets off the alarm. We have smoke/fire detectors which are tied into it and report directly to the fire station. Otherwise it reports to our neighborhood patrol/sherif. So far I have not set it off cooking, but if the smoke was bad enough, it probably could!
