Hi, Suze,

Our system was installed several years ago so I don't know the actual cost,
but it is monitored by ADT Security Systems, with whom we are pleased. The
system features include wall panels that will allow you to manage "areas" of
the house and we are able to program it to turn off the motion detectors
when we leave so that the dogs do not set off the alarm. Additionally, all
our motion detectors are set approximately 4 1/2 feet off the floor so that
if dogs are left inside, they cannot set off the alarm (unless, of course,
they are not contained in an area where they could "jump on" furniture which
puts them at a higher level----not uncommon here!). And we feel confident
that the motion detectors would work at that height (unless we were
burglarized by very short people).

We can also change the main code easily and if we wish, we can program in
yet separate codes for others to use while we are away, thus never having to
give out our "main" code. Those particular codes can then be deleted
whenever we decide, but the program always allows us to see who has entered
our home when we weren't here (using any code and indicating dates/times).
Very convenient feature, for instance, when someone is coming in to take
care of our animals when we are out of town.

Just thought I would mention the higher motion detectors and the code
features as elements you might want to consider in a new alarm system. Good
luck!
