Barb,
When I had my dogs hearing tested a few years ago (they did a BAER Test),
the first click stimulus they used was about 85 decibels which they told me
is equivalent to "loud talking". The second volume level thy used was 99
decibels, which is equivalent to a jet engine. So that makes 106 decibels
pretty darn loud.
Yes, I think that could damage a dog's hearing if left on for a long time.
Think of the workers on the tarmac at airports with their ear muffs (don't
know what they're called!). I would think that it would take prolonged
repeated exposure to loud sounds to completely deafen a dog or a
human......Think of how much loud music we are exposed to before in "middle
age" we start seeing hearing aids showing up mong our peer group! I asked
an otolaryngologist about loud music one time, and he said it happens
gradually - like sinning. It gets worse and worse! And it doesn't matter
if it's sitting in the front row at the symphony, or going to rock
concerts.(OR an alarm).
