A dog can be excused any number of times by a judge, usually it is for something like lameness, the dog could have cut their pad and is limping that day or not allowing themselves to be examined by the judge etc. A dog may only be disqualified for something that is considered a disqualification in the standard for that breed. In Goldens DQ's are under or overshot bites and deviation of height greater or lesser than the one inch faultiness allowed on each end of the height range for dogs and bitches. Once a dog has been DQ'd 3 times it may not be shown again. So basically 3 strikes (DQ's) and you're out, but no numerical limits on being excused.
