I don't know if anyone can help me here, but I've got a big problem with my
escaping Cavaliers! We've lived here 4 years, got the place fenced when we
moved in, chain link, right to the ground. We live on about 1/3 acre, not
huge by any means, but no neighbours (perfect for having dogs). We also
live on a highway! The dogs have the run of the yard. Problem: black &
tan girl seems to feel the need to escape! She digs under the fence and
goes. I have heart failure. My husband has put chicken wire down inside
the fence line - doesn't stop her, she finds a weakness and digs under.
Last week, two others followed her out, cars slowed down, a lady stopped and
we got the 3 delinquents back in the house - wet, muddy, and none the worse
for wear - except me of course! OK, so we go and buy 4 X 4 X 8 ft. wooden
planks and lay them inside the fence line, with 12 inch spikes to hold them
down. Now I feel somewhat safer - until an hour ago. Same black & tan
(grrr!) CHEWS through the chain link, near the ground where there is about 4
inches of space between the 4 X 4s and out she goes, followed by an
adventurous 10 month old blenheim. Did I mention this gives me heart
failure?????

So far, their luck has held, but after screaming like a banshee at all of
them and putting them in the kitchen with no yard privileges, I'm a wreck
and at the end of my rope. They DO come to me when I go out the front of
the house to get them, and I usually know instantly they're out (the others
tend to let me know by their frantic barking), but one of these days a
passing car or truck is going to get them (or her)!

Help! What can we do next? My thoughts are turning to the hidden fence,
and I have a call in to a company for an estimate. But is there something
else that might work? And why is it the wholecolour that does this? The
others don't even try to get out - until she leads the way!

Sorry for the length of this post, but I thought someone might have had the
same problem and have a solution that we haven't thought of.
