Like I said. I wasn't supprised when BGP brought out eye glaze for the poor
tech. It was a home connection. He DID have 2 providers (still does).

DSL is cheaper, but really, who cares. DSL=$80/mo vs Cable $120/mo. 40
dollars a month isn't enough to worry about. Not compared to service. Shaw
was installed in 24 hours, and my experience had been quite reliable.
That's worth $40 a month. End of story. At home, it might be different,
but I just run the cheapie, so price is the same either way.

I've had Shaw now for 3 years, and I've never had a complaint except for the
few days of changing IP addresses. That's rare, and really, I KNOW i have a
DHCP address, so I don't really have a legitimate complaint anyway. It's
just annoying.

I've never used Shaw's email. I can't speak for or against it. I'm sure
there are some nasty letters in there regarding my bandwidth useage some
months, but I've never seen 'em. I had a MyRealBox account when I moved
here (Free mail from Novell. Similar to M$ Hotmail, except with IMAP4, and
a 10 Meg limit.). I was happy with it, and I chose it so that I wouldn't go
through changing adresses when companies changed owners. Proved itself to
be a good call during the @shaw.com to @shaw.ca move a while back...

I've never called Tech Support except for failures at their end, and that's
only happend once, during a rainstorm downtown. The issue was promptly
resolved, and I was a "your call is important to us..." caller for only
about 2 mins. My Boss had a cable modem go dead when a pipe in his house
burst above his server (Thankfully it protected the Linux box, so it was a
worthwhile loss.) It was replaced immediately. His monitor was not so
fortunate. With that type of service, I'll continue to recommend them.

Shaw has proven more reliable over the last 18 months than our T3 (AT&T).
Service is better, and prices are better. The Cable is faster Downloading,
and I don't upload enough large files to care about the upload speed cap.

By all means, if your experiences are different, then recommend someone
else.

Kev.
