perhaps ... usually configuring one thing will have no affect on anything
else. notable exceptions are things like firewalls and other network
configurations

tell us how you tried to get to your email, what the error messages are, if
you can otherwise "see" your mail server (e.g. ping it), what software you
are using when attempting all this, etc...
