Shortly after I posted this a local person contacted me from another recycler and is sending me chips. We don't need any now. I wanted to point out that these can be used for disk-less computers. They are easy to program and because many LUG members are hands on techy people it could be some thing that LUG members could do.Roy can you or someone else program chips to suit Startech S100 network cards?
When we did our XTerminal demo we did not have enough ROM chips so we had to use hard drives. The best price I could find for ROM chips was $8 but since I posted this people are telling me about $1 and $2 sources. Programmed they are selling for about $15 to $20 US.
I don't like the idea of good working parts going to trash just because new ones are cheap. This is a project, not a solution. I would not recomend anyone use old parts for customers terminals, but for LUG use and the learning part I do recomend it.
There are also thousands of other simple electronic projects that people can use this chips for. People can download projects details off the Internet.
Also before you trash your dead hard drive, the magnets in it are really powerfull and make great fridge magnets. Watch your fingers, they snap hard!
Thanks.

Changing the way people do business.
As I understand it you need a $400 device to do this?
The startech uses a basic Realtek 8319 I think.
