All,

I need to build a very reliable print server for a bunch of different Unix
hosts. My company does warehousing and distribution for Nortel, and we
connect to all of their Warehouse management applications running on a
bewildering array of *nixes, (From Linux to HP-UX, yada, yada, and throw in
some NT boxes too) Nortel has decided that they want to drop their printing
nightmare in our laps.

Basically, they want to point all of their boxes at our spooler and let us
worry about the printers. Its not a bad idea, since every time there is a
problem, we spend 99% of the time figuring out what Nortel calls our
printers. (different groups over there call the same printer different
names)

I need a box that can handle about 100 printers, at about one 2-page job per
minute per printer, with a mix of label, thermal, impact and laser printers.
and I'd love to use Linux to do the job (We have a small budget)

I'm thinking of using LPRng or is there better? I don't think I can use CUPS
since Nortel has some very old boxes.

Does any one have any experience with this or some good places to get really
good info? Are any Distro's better than any other?

Thanks in advance,
Rob.
