yes and no. there are actual, measurable advantages/disadvantages between the
two of them. however, whever they mean anything to you depends on how you use
the system and what your expectations/needs/desires/preferences are.
if you wish to avoid being swayed by publicity, then perhaps you should try
them both and decide for yourself.
btw, there really isn't any coherent KDE marketing plan. that is something
that the GNOME project tends to be better at, actually. which makes the fact
that you hear more about KDE than GNOME rather interesting. in the closed
source world, dollars drives visibility. in Free software, popularity does.
neither are necessarily tied to quality, of course. =)
