just as an FYI (because i don't think i've seen anyone else say it yet in this 
thread, and i'd feel somewhat neglectful not having it said): WU-FTPD has a 
HORRID security track record and is HORRIBLY implemented. a more modern, more 
secure FTP server is highly recommended if you must run FTP. proftpd, tftpd, 
vsftpd ... all are rather better choices. =)
