Thank you everyone. That is great. The problem according to some of the websites you sent was being caused by a "USERID" reverse lookup in the ftpd config file. Once I removed it everything started to work a little faster, but the biggest problem (Head hung in shame) is because port 20 was not also forwarded to the same computer as port 21.
Thanks everyone. PS: Nice and fast now. Still takes like 5 min to start the connection, but I can live with that. -Jim Akeson > > Here's a link that might help. > http://www.siliconvalleyccie.com/linux-hn/ftp-server.htm#_Toc57733503 > > I just installed vsftpd and it's very slick, (Thanks Aaron) but I still need > to tweak my firewall to let things run smoothly as smoothwall should. > > Hope this helps > Jason > > > > > > > ------------------------------ > > Message: 7 > Date: Tue, 10 Feb 2004 20:18:23 -0700 > From: Neil Bower <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: [clug-talk] [OT] ISPs other than Shaw? > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset="iso-8859-1" > > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > On Tue February 10 2004 18:09, Matt Hoover wrote: > > Hey everyone - Matt here from Indianapolis, IN.
