Hi Folks,

One of the applications I used a lot with Mandriva 2006 Powerpack (32 bit) was
"gretl". (I had installed the 32 bit version even though my processor is an
AMD64.) After I installed Mandriva 2007 Powepack I tried to re-install gretl.
After unpacking gretl-1.6.0.tar.bz I entered "./configure" from a terminal:
this was successful. But when entered "make" it finished with the following
error message:

/usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libdl.so when searching for -ldl
/usr/lib/libxml2.so: could not read symbols: File in wrong format
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[1]: *** [libgretl-1.0.la] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/robin/gretl/gretl-home/gretl-1.6.0/lib'
make: *** [lib] Error 2

The person who developed gretl suggested that "..., it looks as if there's some
collision going on between 32-and 64-bit version of shared libraries here. You
may need to set the environment variable LB_LIBRARY_PATH to ensure that the
64-bit version is picked up first." How do I do this?

Robin Carter
