I've never used Mandriva, but I have seen apt-get spit out a ton o'
errors when I either lose Internet connectivity or made some recent
changes to my sources.list file and failed to do an apt-get update.

Is there some way within Mandriva to 'refresh' your repository list? If
so, maybe give it a whirl and try again.

Also, while I share your concern that 2 files need 39 in order to work,
this isn't all that unusual. That's the beauty of a package manager - it
finds all of that our for you and then (attempts) to install them.
Imagine if you had to find out about all those dependencies one-by-one
while trying to install your package. Ugh.

I'm sure none of this is helpful, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
