-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Since in my workshop I will be relying on 64Studio, I will be providing the iso and a couple disks independent from the "official" linux distro (I am not commercially entangled with them, I am just a very happy user).
I would also say that Fedora and Ubuntu make good choices, though I would hesitate on an either or decision. The two camps are fairly distinct and under the hood they both differ significantly enough that I would not want to force someone in one direction or the other. This is particularly true if collectively RH/Fedora/Some Derivative is chosen :) I would tend to favour Kubuntu as the particular flavour, though it is no different than Ubuntu (you are only an aptitude install kubuntu-desktop away).
