Perhaps you should be giving us these statistics if you say you have been vindicated by the "proof," but I'll bite. I don't have any stats, but I can give you my own personal experience.
I purchased an Eee PC with Linux preloaded when it first came out. Then my Dad purchased one and was very happy with Linux and all the software that came pre-installed (he had no previous Linux experience and is not a computer guru). He was so happy, in fact, that he recently purchased a newer model and specifically chose Linux instead of XP. My brother also purchased an Aspire One with Linux. The distro. that it shipped with sucked. He could not play any videos because it didn't have any codecs and they were hard to install. The first upgrade broke the package manager so he could no longer install anything or upgrade it. Once I installed UNR, he was happy as can be. So, in a family of five, three people have purchased netbooks with Linux. Two have them have purchased or are in the process of purchasing another one. I'd say that's pretty good, especially considering the manufacturers made such awful choices with their default installs. Meanwhile, my aunt calls me a good three times a day to help her fix her crappy windows boxes. There's no doubt in my mind that Linux is a better desktop OS.
