Gustin is definitely correct on the baud rate. I just got flashback to my younger days when I listen for the audio in digital connections. Fax machine are pretty archaic and slow, but really robust.

I can't believe I have not tried this already. I have two or three

At a guess I would say manage your expecations. Most fax machines
work at 9.6 kbit/s. I would not expect to get much more than that,
perhaps 14.4 kbit/s.

Wouldn't hurt to try. Just a though that came to mind - fax machine protocol
is fairly simple, not a lot of hand shaking and long enough pauses between send
and acknowledgement. I would think that data transmission would likely get
messed up with a tight protocol, more handshaking and latency - but that is
only a guess.

Let me know if you need a pair of modems to try out.

Hi all,
Is it possible to use an old-fashion modem with Shaw's digital phone
server, I suspect not but would like confirmation.

Why?... We're looking for an out-of-band route into the company's
router/network. We have Shaw internet for local traffic and MPLS between
buildings.

Currently have a Roger's PSTN, but they're discontinuing service in Alberta.
Simon.

Fax machines work... it's worth trying a modem, or at least asking
Shaw about it.

Yes. Shaw's home phone service works just like traditional phone
service, and therefore allows you to send and receive faxes."
