Is there some reason the therapy company can't plan and do therapy minutes according to your planned ARD? They could possibly do a few more minutes each day, do 7 days versus 5, do more than 1 time per day, etc. There are many needs, issues, sections of MDS, functional use of the skills therapy increases, etc. besides therapy that goes on for each resident. It is so great with the whole team working together for the resident to increase their ADL function long term yet deal with all the care issues, etc. ----- Original Message ----- From: Pat Whitcomb Sent: Tuesday, April 27, 2004 8:01 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: moving PPS ARDs e have a new therapy company. On their first day they asked me to unlock a PPS MDS and change the ARD because they thought they could capture a higher RUG score. I refused. Now they are asking me to change the ARDs soon after I post the schedule. This does not usually involve RV-RU groups-often RM and RH. I think this may be legal as they are asking me to change the dates prior to the ARDs but I'm not sure this is ethical. I definitely don't think it is standard practice. Can anyone validate this?

The ARD does not have to be kept the same once it is set. The reason we have 8 days to pick from is so we can capture which day works the best to pick the best rug. However, if it's a 5day assessment, I would not use grace days if they are only able to get RM or RH, but for the other assessments it is perfectly ethical to change the ARD to capture that rug level. The patient may have been ill or uncooperative one or more days & if you don't change the day, you probably won't be able to capture the rehab rug.
When a resident is admitted, I set the ARD's out through their 100 days. However, those are only projected dates & we frequently change them in order to capture the best rug level.
