Hi Wendy,
Welcome to the group. I've only been a member a short while but have found
hearing other people's stories very comforting. I know how difficult the dx is.
Your mind is reeling and just saying the C in cancer is ultimate shell shock. If
possible, try to stay in the moment. I started reading a book called Kitchen
Table Wisdom stories that heal. It has offered a lot of perspective about life
and value of the current moment. I've also found journaling, on my
computer, a great way to perform a "brain dump." I was having difficulty
shutting off my mind at night and getting ahead of myself. You may find some
comfort in that.
Also, as another member told me, when you first get dx, your dealing
with all the emotions and your blood levels haven't evened out it's
absolutely draining. Now is the time to let other help and take the help in any
way it comes. I've been on Gleevec for one month and have found in the last week
that I feel a lot better. Hydration is a key ingredient. Drink the fluids as
much as possible.
Keep us posted on your progress. Stay positive, this is something you CAN
LIVE WITH.
Take care and blessings,
Vicki
