Yes--it's true that it was a big mistake to stop the gleevec.  I wish I knew that then, you just get kind of confortable with your Dr. and assume he had done his homework.  I'm sure he did not have bad intentions.  He even had my husband on 200mg of gleevec and if it was not for this site and a fellow cml'er who let me know to question that, he would have been happy to leave him on that.  I think you are right about Dr.s who deal with all different kinds of cancer not knowing cml as much as a specialist.  I wish there was one in our area, but unfortunately there is not.  Our new onc. is also one who deals with many other types of cancer.  However, he seems very confortable consulting with others if he does not know something which makes me feel a little better.  It means we have to always stay on top of the treatment plan thats for sure. I am so happy to be able to check things out with all the folks here, its such a great source of information!  Thanks S

I was very happy to read the last sentence of your message where you stated that your husband had now gotten a new doctor.  I cannot imagine any doctor stopping Gleevec because of a clean BMB at this point.  There is nothing to indicate that there is a cure and it must be treated as a chronic illness.  Gleevec at 300 mg. can quite possibly lead to resistance.  Please be sure you are seeing a CML specialist.  We have found that doctors who treat multiple cancers doesn't  necessarily make them know CML or the most current treatments.
