Hi Suzieq,

To be perfectly honest, this is a "no brainier" to me because if it can
bring in even one donor then it could potentially save a life. Even many
more, because of others that may also take interest, and advantage of this
program.

Something else you must realise is that when a donor gets his or her marrow
typing done it usually goes into a bone marrow bank.

It can sit there for a very short period of time or even for years until
there is a recipient found in need of that type of HLA match. So,
potentually it could be someone in need right now. or even a child that is
not even born as yet.

I am speaking with some authority about this because my life was saved
through a bone marrow donation. Did you know that there is only a one in
four percent chance that there will be a match between siblings?

Unfortunately, these odds go up because this becomes in the thousands for
non related donors. there is actually a one in twenty thousand chance for a
match.

Even then, there has to be a good HLA non reactive match, healthy individual
with no hidden blood disorders to even consider transplantation.

You just have to think about the person that needs either a bone marrow or
stem cell transplant that can't find a matching donor. I don't have to go
any further...

GOD bless,

Marty
