Yes, we have at least one J/70 racing in the province (there is only one
listed in the PHRF-NS database) and it must fit the parameters to be
classed as a sport boat. It raced in Race the Cape 2013 last year and
did well. Race the Cape 2014 expects to have a Sport Boat Division this
year so if they return they should be grouped with those.

We have had to define a class for sport boats in Nova Scotia.
See page 32 of this PHRF-NS Handicap Manual for details:

ads/NSYA_Handicaping_Manual_Version_12_5_June%20_2013%20(1).pdf

oads\NSYA_Handicaping_Manual_Version_12_5_June%20_2013%20(1).pdf>

The boats that currently race in Nova Scotia that are designated
as sport boats are:

        1D35

        J/80

        Melges 24

        Mumm 30

        Rocket 22

        Soto 40

        Viper 640

        Melges 32

        Hi Dwight,
I imagine the Kirby 25 was planing and surfing while you guys
were not able to?

I hate when they put planing boats in with our division, but
that's PHRF. Melges 20, Melges 24, but the most impressive thing was an
all carbon Viper 640 that even led the fleet to the windward mark in 4
knot wind and gained a little on each leg, especially downwind.

K25, which was a really slippery little boat, raced side by side
with a C&C 37R in goods winds under spinnaker on a long run in from
Chebucto Head and we held our own easy...only 3 of us onboard that
day...very memorable day...First in Class I seem to recall...Bob may
have a say on that day too
