The existing exception already says “rebuild stored digests from source data before merging”. This digest object does not know its segment identity, so it cannot report one reliably. Existing tests cover both merge orders, retained bytes and unchanged healthy mass; policy approval remains a separate maintainer gate. Validated at `3821623d46933dd233b8110e123ecb4f86ac1e96`: 554 affected tests, genuine 3.2/3.3 bidirectional byte checks, the 270-case oracle, applicable precommit checks and independent Pinot review pass. New-head CI and maintainer approval remain separate gates. ########## pinot-segment-local/src/main/java/org/apache/pinot/segment/local/customobject/tdigest/PercentileTDigestAccumulator.java: ########## @@ -0,0 +1,1725 @@ +/** + * Licensed to the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) under one + * or more contributor license agreements. I expanded the downgrade note to cover this healthy retained case as well as degraded bytes. The exception remains deliberate: rewriting these historically unrepresentable endpoints would trade away byte preservation without guaranteeing legacy recompression safety. Newly generated healthy outputs remain capped to both readers; affected historical data must be rebuilt before sending it to 3.3 readers. The policy still requires maintainer acceptance. Validated at `3821623d46933dd233b8110e123ecb4f86ac1e96`: 554 affected tests, genuine 3.2/3.3 bidirectional byte checks, the 270-case oracle, applicable precommit checks and independent Pinot review pass. New-head CI and maintainer approval remain separate gates. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
