Yeah, the wiring on mine has one wire coming straight off the power plug, into the switch, out of the switch, back to the board, and through the fuse. Mine doesn't make any sounds at all when turned on... but it does when headphones are plugged in... speaker perhaps?

Nah, the sound I mean is that of electrical contacts coming together with a poor connection, you know like when the macs turned on when you plug it in, just alot less. :) I was looking at a classic2 board, guess I'd better take the back of a classic1 and have a look. The classic2 AC wire comes of the board.

Right now I'm faced with a very big problem with mine... a snapped picture tube. I have an intact Plus one, and am quickly waiting for a response as to whether or not to go ahead with the tube-transplant. I really want to get this thing up and running again! The look alike, but the components attached to them look different on the Plus and the Classic, so I'm kinda worried.

I can only express sadness, as for the advice (none) the tubes are meant to be the same? The board on the back and analog board and logic board for that matter are different, there are also two revisions of the classic which may not mesh together.
Sorry there's no Plus here but hopefully I've made enough of a mess of this that one of the folks who know what they're talking about will get back to you soon.

If I thought the tube looked right I'd have a go at it. If you here here I'd send you one. :(

Best of luck.
