Anyway, keep in mind that they aren't going to last forever, so, sadly, a time
will arrive in the future when we will not be able to use our beloved 128s, 512s
and Pluses... :-(
That is, when we forget to backup the software on a more lasting medium.
I see no reason why there would ever come a time when we will not be able to use our beloved fanless compact macs. The seem to be pretty solid performers and not to difficult to repair when needed. All the plusses I have encountered so far are in working order (although the power supplies of some of them have no doubt under gone repair), I wish I could say the same thing about SE/30's.
The plus continues to be my favorite mac of all time. Mine is totally floppy driven. It runs on a floppy containing system 2.1 with the laserwriter driver 7.0, appleshare 1.1 and writenow 2 with 96k to spare. In the external diskdrive I have a floppy with the documents I am working on. Documents are copied to and from a LC with a disabled fan acting as a file server that can also be adressed by my my two modern, also fanless computers. I print to a laserwriter 4/600, that according to Apple is only compatible with system 7.1 or higher. The nice thing about the 4/600 is that it turns itself on automatically when I give a print order and shuts up as soon as it is finished. I just love the silence of it all. It allows me to concentrate on my work or listen to a nice piece of Bach without being bothered by the constant humming of computer or laserprinter fans.
