i tried them in both A and B, both with and without my 4MB simms. the
only time they were ever recognized was in B (with the 4x4MB in A), and
then only as 4MB simms.

actually, i discovered that i had 4 16MB simms lying around. so, with my
original 4 4MB simms, i have 80MB. plenty. i won't bother with the 8MB
simms now...

i did know bit, but thank you for the detailed explanation, it's very
clear to me now. love to learn new things.

your suspicion that the SE/30 doesn't support 11x12 or 12x11 addressing
explains why the 8MB simms are seen as 4MB, but it doesn't explain why
they don't work on their own in bank A.

are you speaking from knowledge of the SE/30, or general knowledge?

other interesting bit, it doesn't matter whether or not i have the 16MB
simms in bank A with the 4MB in bank B, or vice versa. the machine still
sees them all OK. that's contrary to the rule that the largest simms
should be in A. i note also that when using 256KB simms with 4MB simms,
the 256KB should be in bank A. all of these exceptions to the rules
really makes me want to get my hands on a tech manual for the SE/30...
