i tried them in both A and B, both with and without my 4MB simms. the only time they were ever recognized was in B (with the 4x4MB in A), and then only as 4MB simms.
Yet another mystery...In other words, beats me. I don't understand it either. Clearly, there's something else going on.
your suspicion that the SE/30 doesn't support 11x12 or 12x11 addressing explains why the 8MB simms are seen as 4MB, but it doesn't explain why they don't work on their own in bank A.
True enough. So I could be on the wrong track.
are you speaking from knowledge of the SE/30, or general knowledge?
General Knowledge.
i note also that when using 256KB simms with 4MB simms, the 256KB should be in bank A.
I think that that is only for the IIci because of the built-in video and how it affects performance.
all of these exceptions to the rules really makes me want to get my hands on a tech manual for the SE/30...
When you find one, let the rest of us know where to get it. :-) I think the closest thing available is probably the "Guide to the Macintosh Family Hardware." I have a copy but it's not on my shelf. So it must be in a box in my attic or in my parent's attic.
