The 8MB SIMMs are seen as 4MB because of the way that RAM is addressed. I don't know your level of knowledge so forgive me if I explain the obvious.

Thanks to Jeff for that very clear explanation/reminder of everything I once knew about DRAM addressing, but forgot about 15 years ago. Very helpful indeed.
