Does Linux support AppleTalk?
There is a netatalk package. I think it can be compiled as a kernel module or ran as a standalone service. But don't quote me on that.
Works quiet well apart from a startup lag as appletalk is registered. The source is easy to compile as a service and by default allows users across your lan to log into their home directory.
Netatalk will usually configure itself when installed, the biggest problem with newer nix distros is the firewall installed by default (kernel 2.2.x up) needs to be told to allow udp/tpc port 548 for appletalk. This is the default port and what older versions of appleshare only can search for servers on. It can be changed or multiple servers can be configured to suit your needs (lan/web/guest/member/ect all with different ports and access rights).
I'm yet to master the print server. grrrr. As for Netatalk being a kernel module? are you confusing hfs support?
