If you do have two phone lines or a home switchboard (not sure if this is
the correct way to say it), you can configure Linux to receive incoming
calls and make the Classic call the Linux box. AFAIK, there is no way to
connect directly two modems without a phone network between them.

Of course, if you do that, you'll need to install a suitable TCP/IP stack
and PPP client in the Classic, but I hope you already spected that.

Ehmmmm... no. Not at least with the ADB card. ADB is a protocol designed
only for low speed input devices (mice, keyboards, trackballs, graphics
tablets, joysticks...), and it won't interconnect two or more computers. The
card you name would be a nice toy to play with: it would be curious to use
an Apple ADB mouse in a PC :-) .
