If you do have two phone lines or a home switchboard (not sure if this is
the correct way to say it), you can configure Linux to receive incoming
calls and make the Classic call the Linux box. AFAIK, there is no way to
connect directly two modems without a phone network between them.

http://www.jagshouse.com/modem.html is one way, there are others. As explained you have better compatibity for swapping files over that of a null modem but the speed is limited a bit.


Using a term program with either method can be tricky to setup properly, batch transfers need monitoring and from memory there is a size limit before problems strike. You may also find it hard to balance error checking between platforms. This is a YMMV as I last done this between a powermac and a Amiga, guess whos port gets swamped first? not the 68k. ;)
