Hmmm ... I wonder if you used Extension Manager and started-up under "OS 8.1
Base" if it would still work?

Don't know and can't try it since I use Remus to create my disk arrays, and it must have the extension to find the system files :-)

Of course I'm assuming you are connecting via ethernet, and running TCP/IP. There are NO macs that can (officially) run recent versions of OSX and have a serial port, so you have to be connecting via ethernet. If you have ethernet on your old Mac (all my Macs have it - from my SE/30 up) then why not run TCP/IP?

But one other thing.... I print happily on my old networked LaserWriter IIg. From OS 6 through OSX. Isn't that done by AppleTalk?

Sorry for my "off topic" Q950. I used to be able to file share between my OS 6.0.8L Classic II (via Asante EN/SC box) and my G4 PowerBook or G3 B&W running 10.2. Since going to 10.3 I can only do this with Macs running OS 8.1 or greater. Now I read that 10.4 won't connect to OS 9. It's a trend to be concerned about.

At least FTP still works.....
