There was a website I found where a user explained the same problem
you were having, their fix was to uninstall their HP printing software
(they had installed from a CD) and then the internet explorer options
were fixed.

As far as the reg goes your internet explorer should be resolving the
websites correctly.

Another thing we can try, since I am taking you through 10 loops, is
to download Mozilla Firefox, free download from http://www.download.com

try to enter some websites in that browser and see if you have the
same issue, if it works then your IE would have a problem, if it
doesn't work then it would either be a system wide issue or your
internet service.
