I was being facetious but true.

There were many clergy who felt the war with England was not proper especially because of the "render unto Caesar" scripture.

There are all sorts of taxes and dues we need to pay.

I read this week (This is the pericope for this weekend.) that one writer stated he always makes sure what he gives to God is more than the taxes he pays.

In the state of Alabama our property taxes are a joke (my yearly property taxes are what some of you pay monthly) but we do pay it through the nose on sales tax, 9% on everything but prescription drugs and services.

It is what you pay to live in a given local.

I would not mind if my property taxes were more because I know this is how schools get funded and we need better schools.

Also note King George was also a German prince. Caused a lot of dual allegiances within the colonists who were from Germany.

Come on Stewart. You know that they were protesting a tax imposed
by fiat by King George. You know, the whole "Taxation without
representation" thing.

Taxes are the dues you pay for living in relative safety and freedom.

Paying taxes is also the Christian thing to do, if I understand the
"Render
unto Caesar" teaching properly.
