Why don't they focus more on corporate taxes?

Because there are more than enough corporate tax breaks to effectively
lower that marginal rate to acceptable levels?

If US corporations were actually paying 35% across the board
there wouldn't be business in the US.

It's high on paper, and I'm not a corporate tax attorney. But US
corporations manage to make profits (not lately, OK) overall.

A political candidate will say anything to advance their agenda
and frankly it's all sound bites and window-dressing on both sides.
