DC has never voted Republican in a presidential election. It is the ONLY "state" to have voted for Humphrey, McGovern, Carter II, Mondale, AND Dukakis. In the 1972 and 1984 elections, the Democratic result was DC + -one- additional state. Also, William Ayres once visited the District.
