I have elderly relatives who buy Windows machines, because that is what they know and don't want to be bothered learning something new just to do their email and buying plane tickets for travel. I set up my 70-something mother-in-law several years ago and I only need to deal with her Dell XP system a couple times per year. She's more afraid to try and do anything beyond basic operation, which usually amounts to installing some app or updating an existing 3rd party app, like Flash.
