For basic HTML it's got a steep learning curve. But for todays CSS-laden sites, it's got a massive learning *overhanging cliff*. Tom seems to want to disparage CMS's uniformity, but that's why people like them so much. Trying to program that much CSS by hand is a daunting task not for the squeamish.
