If you buy an external drive, they may not have the full warranty of a bare
drive.  I worry more about warranty length and ease of exchange, WD,
seagate...between the two I can't say which I've had better or worse luck.

I've a friend who replaced his 5400 drive with a 7200 drive in his macbook
pro, he said the difference was significant.  You don't need the speed of a
7200 externally, but I would get one for your system drive if at all you
can.
