I have been using their scorpio's for some time now and have been quite happy with them.

I am not sure which one they use in the My Passport drives, but they are generally made for prolonged use.

You said to ultimately put into your Mac- then why use an old one.
Buy a new Hard drive; get an enclosure (15 bucks is max) and you are home free. You can clone the drive and then replace the one in your computer.

The WD My Passport drive is new--got it last week on Black Friday. It was cheaper than buying a bare drive.

I'd like to know if it's any good before voiding my warranty by opening the enclosure. Actually, I could register the drive's S/N instead of the enclosure's S/N and still maintain the warranty for the drive only.

Is a WD notebook drive any good, or should I consider another mfg?
