       Of course, I don't know whether Saddam had (has) WMD, nor do I claim to understand his mindset in any way at all. But one answer to the above question might be the resentment (justified or not) that leaders (also citizens) often feel when foreigners tell them what to do.  Alternatively, commentators often depict Saddam as aspiring to the position of a modern day Saladin (sp ?) and therefore he might resist cooperating with the inspectors whether or not he possessed WMD to enhance his image in the Arab world.

       Incidentally, had I been in Saddam's shoes and did not possess WMD, I would have bought some (as quickly as I could) to disclose them to the U.N. inspectors. But again I haven't a clue as how Saddam thinks, and don't really care to remedy my ignorance in this matter.
