Re the various permission & ownership issues, it would be useful if you are
still able, to perform a backup using the standard built in backup to
workstation/USB on the old sme7.6 server, & then restore that to a clean
install of sme8 OS on a test server.
You could then check & see if those same permission & ownership issues are
present (using the default backup & restore procedure).
You could also try restoring the sme7.6 DAR2 backup to a clean install of sme8
OS on a test server & also see if the same issues arise. Remember your problems
were on a server on which you had done a restore & then did a second restore,
which IS NOT recommended practice.
That will help identify if the DAR2 contrib is buggy on sme8, & can be your
contribution to improving sme server & contribs.
Something could be wrong with the contrib, or your incorrect restore
methodology introduced problems, or they could even be a carry over from
sme7.6.
I would be reassessing your ongoing use of the DAR2 contrib, you would be
better off using the built in default backup, which uses dar & was developed
sometime after DAR2, so there is really no reason to need to use DAR2 these
days anyway. DAR2 has effectively been obsoleted by the e-smith backup which
uses dar, & DAR2 is not actively being maintained.
