They made it to use, maybe the replies did not make it to you, so you're cc'ed for this one. > > In the current samba packages if you try to enable wins resolution the nmbd > portion of the server crashes or I should say it does not start and fails > during the start. > I have seen issues with nmbd exiting, but have not had time to investigate it, but we have 2.2.7a-4mdk running on 9.0 as our domain controller and wins server with no problems at all. My cooker box runs with 'wins server = <ip>' and name resolve order = 'wins lmhosts bcast' and samba restarts fine etc (I am not prepared to restart samba on our domain controller to just to test this ...). You're going to have to do more debugging, but I don't see that this is going to have us patch anything now ... if it really is a problem, hopefully it will be fixed in 2.2.8 and we might have to do an update (since we need to update the 2.2.7 for 9.0, and I don't think 9.0 should be ahead of 9.1 ;-)). > > Also has anybody had the problem were the computers are seen fine but you can > not browse the workgroup? As far as I can > tell this is only happening from windows xp both pro and home. We only have 3 XP boxen, and since they are the management's laptops, we hardly see them ... but they can browse the network no problems. Have you enabled the firewall perchance? It defaults to firewalling off some NBT (netbios over TCP) ports. > > I have already checked the ifc and browser services and browser is on and ifc > is off like they are supposed to be. This looks like a configuration issue or an authentication problem, which would lead me to believe a)Either you have no smbpasswd for the user logged in on the server which is master browser and you have not got something like "map to guest = bad user" (now a default). b)You have not applied the signorseal patch to your XP boxen. Get it by: $ rpm -ql samba-doc|grep reg or at http://ranger.dnsalias.com/mandrake/muo/connect/csamba6.html#winxp > Also to state > again there were no other problems the network worked in that you could > access the machines and print to the printer you could just not brows the > workgroup computers. > That probably rules out the firewall ... if you could see the print job status. > Still the issue with winbind not starting should be looked into. > WINS or WINBIND???? Buchan P.S. I have uploaded sword, gnomesword and bibletime to contrib ... I made some fixes, mail me if you want to try and get them work multi-distro without hardcoding stuff (like %ostype) in the spec file. Feedback on those packages would also be good. - -- |--------------Another happy Mandrake Club member--------------| Buchan Milne Mechanical Engineer, Network Manager Cellphone * Work +27 82 472 2231 * +27 21 8828820x121 Stellenbosch Automotive Engineering http://www.cae.co.za GPG Key http://ranger.dnsalias.com/bgmilne.asc 1024D/60D204A7 2919 E232 5610 A038 87B1 72D6 AC92 BA50 60D2 04A7 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE+cgPvrJK6UGDSBKcRAqaTAJ48BGyOVNkHSuufB1MbdJ2aEGZI8ACgxtYC Txa16V8KYcBHBdDsymcwCQg= =47+O -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
