I meant on the XP firewall, last I checked it didn't run shorewall ;-).

OK, then maybe it could be shorewall ... you do have at least 137-139 
open? (445 may also be necessary, but our samba DC is inside our 
rather tight firewall, so it doesn't run a firewall, just tight settings).

Would be great if you could give it a run and ensure I haven't broken 
anything. It was a bit of a rush, so I didn't have time to solicit help 
;-). Anyway, if someone decides to look at building RPMs for other 
distros, get them to mail me so I can find out how to detect their 
distro/release (see samba package for an example of how we do it on 
Mandrake) so it isn't necessary to hard-code.
